Near-infrared reflectance can describe soil composition quickly and without consuming the sample. This release contains spectra and reference measurements from 108 soil samples collected in a long-term climate-change experiment at Abisko, northern Sweden. NIRsoil.mat provides soil.data (108 x 1050) over 400-2498 nm at 2 nm intervals and soilref.data (108 x 2) for soil organic matter and ergosterol per gram of dry soil. The samples represent 36 plots with three subsamples per plot: 72 samples from the 0-5 cm horizon and 36 from the 5-10 cm horizon.
